Department of Pharmacy
  about the department :

It is considered as one of the most important departments in the hospital, it directly follows the General Director in JUH organizational structure. This department is committed to provide safe, high quality pharmaceutical care and counseling services to patients and medical staff all around the clock. This department consists of 19 pharmacies distributed on JUH floors and outpatient clinics, including chemotherapy preparation pharmacy, narcotic preparation pharmacy, emergency department pharmacy, and the main pharmacy.

  Department Services :  

1. Direct pharmaceutical services:

 

-Providing pharmaceutical care to patients in outpatient clinics through 7 pharmacies distributed in outpatient clinics and JUH emergency room.

 

- Providing 24 hours pharmaceutical care to inpatients in JUH floors.

 

2. Quality Assurance

 

Continuous updating of department policies to implement quality guidelines and standards. It’s worth mentioning that the department of pharmacy contributed effectively in obtaining the accreditation of the Joint Commission International (JCI) in 2013, as following:

 

- offering training programs about Medication Reconciliation, and organizing educational seminars to increase the medical team awareness about the vital role it plays in decreasing emergencies resulted from medical errors.

 

- Effective participation of the department quality officers in attending quality weekly meeting and participating in quality committee

 

 

3- Training programs offered to pharmacy students:

This department offers training programs for pharmacy students (BSc. Pharmacy and BSc. PharmD) of the University of Jordan and other universities. It is worth mentioning that 184 male and female students were trained during the year of 2013.

 

4- Cooperation with JUH Computer Center:

The coordination with JUH Computer Center in creating new forms and reports and to modify the already existing ones to facilitate and speed up procedures.

 

5- Coordination with JUH Department of Supplies and Tenders:

Participating in committees estimating drugs use (consumption) to be included in JUH annual tenders list.

 

6- Agreements with the Ministry of Health and the University of Jordan:

 - keeping on going with the Ministry of Health agreement, and communicating with auditing committees.

-  The contribution in stating and reviewing drugs item in JUH agreement with the University of Jordan.

 

 7- The Jordanian Pharmacovigilance Centre (JPC)

Activating the role of the Jordanian Pharmacovigilance Centre (JPC) in collaboration with Jordan Food and Drug Administration in controlling drugs side effects, and increasing doctors’ awareness about it.

- Presenting seminars in cooperation with Jordan Food and Drug Administration on the importance of Pharmacovigilance.

 8- External Representation:

-  Steering committee for Rational Use of Drugs (technical committees for Recommended Drug List (DRL) for the year of 2013).

- Tenders of 2013 (Central Tenders Committee, Receiving Committee, Technical Committees)

 

 9- Active participation in several committees, including:

- Drugs Committee.

- Higher Quality Committee

- Complaints and Suggestions Committee.

- Scientific Research Committee.

- Infection Control Committee.

- CPR Committee.

- IRB Committee.

 

 10- Drugs Committee:

- Organizing periodical meetings for drugs committee attended by representatives of all drug-related medical sectors through the application of good pharmaceutical practice concept and finding solutions for medication related problems to have high-quality and cost-effective medications.

 - This committee raises its recommendations and suggestions to JUH General Director for his consideration, approval, and to be circulated to the relevant departments, then to follow up the implementation of its decisions constantly.

 - Following up recent developments in pharmaceutical field and adopting what improves the pharmaceutical care in our hospital in line with JUH budget.

 

 11- Internal Auditing:

 - A physical count of stocking in JUH pharmacies was done, where all balances were identical.

- Internal auditing on all JUH pharmacies was performed through using an audit list that goes in line with quality policies.

 

12- In- service Education:

Presenting seminars about drugs and medications, inviting all JUH pharmacists to attend.

 

13- Department of Pharmacy vision:

- Updating JUH drug formulary list and stating a clear mechanism for drug description and dispensing.

 - Stating treatment protocols and Guidelines.

- Providing training and development opportunities for employees to ensure the implementation of quality standards and raise the level of employees’ and customers’ satisfaction, by offering courses in communication skills for instance, Public relations, Quality, Computer skills, and other technical specialized courses.
